Juanita Perez Williams’ Statement on Trump Administration’s Attack on the Affordable Care Act

SYRACUSE, NY — In response to the announcement by the Trump Administration’s Department of Justice that it will refuse to defend the constitutionality of key provisions of the Affordable Care Act in a suit brought forward in a Texas federal court, Juanita Perez Williams released the following statement:

“This is an outrage. Make no mistake — the Trump Administration’s refusal to defend the Affordable Care Act or uphold consumer insurance protections is a direct attack on working families. This action will further destabilize insurance markets and undermine healthcare for millions. Individuals with pre-existing conditions will be left to fend for themselves.

Meanwhile, Rep. John Katko has stayed silent, standing by President Trump in this latest move to put the profits of insurance companies over people. I call on Katko to denounce President Trump and the Department of Justice in this attack, and demand they defend the healthcare of American families.

We must stop Republican attacks on the Affordable Care Act. And then we must go further to ensure affordable, quality care for everyone. That’s why I support Medicare for All.”
